However, it is worth the effort because just as accessing information through "smart” telephones has become a benefit to the general public, having quick access to building information is of significant value to the facility owner.
No matter what their current level of understanding of building information modeling (BIM) is, attendees of the buildingSMART alliance™ (bSa) Symposium – Improving Life-Cycle Performance with BIM, to be held Thursday, January 9, 8:00 am – 5:15 pm, as part of Building Innovation 2014: the National Institute of Building Sciences Conference and Expo, will come out wiser and more up-to-date on the current state of the art. The Symposium will start by addressing the basic benefits of leveraging information and work, and then move through the opportunities of standardizing international open standards for collecting and accessing that information. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of what standards are currently in place and how to access international guidelines and best practices. There is no benefit in starting from a blank page when developing an organizational BIM implementation plan when the global community is here to offer the best BIM knowledge available today. The goals of the bSa Symposium are simple, to encourage attendees to begin to think collaboratively. The Alliance wants participants to be able to confidently discuss why BIM is the enabler that it is for all information-dependent facility-related functions such as life-cycle costing, resiliency, sustainability, meeting the requirements of climate change, day lighting, energy usage optimization, scenario planning, simulation, code checking, carbon footprint reduction, efficient water usage, achieving net-zero energy, etc.
